Hints and Tips
The default view is a map of Newfoundland and Labrador, shown with the basic controls that will allow you to manipulate the map.
A zoom control is located in the upper left corner of the map. You can move across or up/down the map by using the arrows and zoom in or out on the map with the plus and minus buttons.
Double left-clicking on any particular point on the map will zoom into that location. Double right-clicking on any point will zoom out on that location.
A map type control is located in the upper right corner of the map. The default view is ‘Map’, but you can easily select other types by clicking the appropriate button. Clicking ‘Satellite’ shows you a photo-realistic view of the area, with only the terrain details. The ‘Hybrid’ view shows you a combination of the ‘Map’ and ‘Satellite’ view. It offers more details at certain zoom levels, such as city names and roads.
Right click on your starting point or your destination to get driving directions. A single right click will show a menu, and selecting your start and end points from this menu ("Directions from here" or "Directions to here") will retrieve directions from Google and display them on the map. Selecting "Clear Directions" from the menu will erase the directions.

In the left sidebar under the highlighted "Maps" link, you will notice a list of regions. By clicking a region, you will automatically be taken to this area of the map.
Along the left sidebar, there is a list of categories ranging from businesses ("Hotels," for example) to interesting
Sights and Sounds. Checking any of these categories will drop points related to that category on the map. It will also expand that category to show available subcategories, all of which will be checked by default. Unchecking any business category or subcategory hides those points on the map.
Selecting a point on the map will display information about a business. A bubble will appear with the name of the business, a description of the business, location, contact information, and any other relevant information.
You can add any business to your
Travel Bag by simply clicking the "Add" icon located under the display picture. In order to use the Travel Bag tool, however, you must already have a
user account.
Along the top of the information bubble, there are two tabs. You will start on the Location tab (described above). The other option is Directions. Clicking here will give you the option to get driving directions from any location. Type your starting point in the "From" box, and make sure to be specific about your location. For example:
"St. John’s NL Canada" as opposed to "st johns"
If your directions are not specific enough, a message will pop up that recommends you use the proper format (as in the example above).

Note: Some businesses such as Outfitters, for example, are so remote that they may not be accessible by car. In such cases, directions may not accessible.
One of the categories in the left sidebar is called "Scenic Touring Routes." Clicking this checkbox will make a list of regions appear (such as "The Avalon"). Clicking the checkbox for any of these regions will expand a list of specific scenic touring routes for that region (such as "The Osprey Trail"). To view one of these routes, click the appropriate checkbox.
To discover more about any touring route, open the Location tab in the information bubble for the route and click the "More" button under the image.

A Sights and Sounds checkbox (located under Scenic Touring Routes in the categories list) will fill the map with points that may be of interest. When you click on a point, an information bubble will display a photo and a caption of that place. You also have the option to send the photo to a friend as a postcard—just click the small postcard icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the bubble.
The "Printer Friendly" button under the map will print the map, along with any available directions.
The "Clear Map" button under the map on the right will reset the map to its original state, removing all directions and points.
